DRIVER MESSAGE 8/19/2026: CHECK YOUR FUEL TANKS BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE YARD

We are having issues with drivers leaving the yard without checking their fuel tanks and then either running out of fuel or realizing they’re low on fuel when they’re at a job site. Please make looking in your fuel tank part of your pre trip inspection. Many of the trucks are working day and night so its possible it has ran since the truck was fueled by the second shift fueler the afternoon evening before. Please also do not rely on the fuel gauge in the cab either as they may not be accurate. We buy fuel in bulk to having to stop at a retail site to buy fuel is not only inconvenient but costly. Or if there are no fuel stations that sell heavy truck diesel taxed at the higher rate in the area you are working a road call to bring fuel to a truck will be very expensive.

Time Off & PTO Requests

If you would like to request time off please email ottodispatch@ottotrucking.com one week in advance. Time-off requests must include the info listed below.

  • Your Name
  • First day off:
  • First day available for work:
  • PTO hours to be used:  (8 hour per day minimum, 40 hours max per week)
  • Reason for time off:

Dispatch can allow up to six drivers off per day. Time-off requests are  on a first come, first serve basis and must be turned in at least one week in advance. Dispatch does not know how many PTO hours you have available so if you request PTO and dispatch approves the time off it does not mean you will get that time off paid. For questions about your PTO balance please log into i-solved.com or contact payroll.

Non-Paid Days Off

All drivers & operators are allowed up to five non-paid days off per year. Any additional days including sick days will require you to use PTO. If you call out of work and have already exhausted the five non-paid days off allowed that year you may become ineligible for paid time off.

Drivers who miss more than 5 non-paid days off will not be eligible for safety bonuses and subject to pay decreases, being switched to a part-time status with no benefits and or termination.

Weekends

Otto Trucking requires all drivers to be available for weekend work to meet our customer’s needs. However, we also understand drivers need time for themselves or to spend time with friends or family. If you need a weekend off please email a weekend-off request to dispatch one week in advance just like a time off request. Weekends off do not require you to use PTO and they do not count against the five non-paid days off allowed per year. If no weekend off request is sent in we expect that driver to be available for dispatch. Weekends off requests are still tracked in your attendance so please don’t abuse this policy and request every weekend off.

Refusing to work Saturday or Sunday without a request in prior will be insubordination. Insubordinate drivers will not be eligible for safety bonuses and subject to pay decreases and or termination.

Out of Town Work

Otto Trucking will send trucks wherever our customers need them and all drivers are hired with the expectation they can work out of town when needed.   If there is ever an occasion you cannot work out of town or even need a break from working out of town for please email dispatch a week in advance. In-town requests are WEEKLY. If you are not available certain days or have any type of commitments prior to being hired you must email dispatch  WEEKLY.  Dispatchers cannot remember every driver’s personal schedule and must be reminded weekly so they can make notes on their calendar.

Refusing out of town work without a request in prior will be insubordination. Insubordinate drivers will not be eligible for safety bonuses and subject to pay decreases and or termination.

Night Work

Otto Trucking will work nights when customers need trucks at night. Drivers are expected to be available to switch to night shift when needed. If you need to work day shift and can’t work nights for a week please email dispatch a week in advance.  Day shift requests need to be emailed WEEKLY. Dispatch does not have time to remember every driver’s personal schedule.

Refusing night work without a request in prior will be insubordination. Insubordinate drivers will not be eligible for safety bonuses and subject to pay decreases and or termination.

Rain Days

If is raining or it rained heavily at night please contact dispatch at 5:30AM before you leave your home or the yard in the morning regardless of your start time to make sure your job is still running. When it rains many jobs get shut down due to flooding or mud being tracked out onto the street. If your job is still running and you have to drive in the rain please be extremely careful and drive slow!

Got a good picture to share of trucks on a job site?

Send it to andrew.otto@ottotrucking.com, we might put it on the website!

ELD DEVICES

As part of our transition to Motive GPS tracking and dash cameras all trucks are ELD equipped through the use of an application you can download on your phone. If you are traveling outside a 100 air-mile radius of the yard you are required to fill out a log book. If you have to fill out a log book more than 8 times in a 30 day period you must use an ELD.   To use the ELD’s in our trucks simply download the free app below and create an account. Once you’ve done this Otto Trucking’s management will approve you to add you to the company and you will be able to log your hours digitally. See links to download the apps below.

If you have any questions about E-Logs and when to use them please contact your Operations Manager or Safety Director.

WEEKLY TIME CARDS

Occasionally time cards go missing, come in late, or mistakes on hours are made. Please fill out a weekly time card each week showing all of your hours for the previous week and turn it in by Tuesday so payroll can double-check your hours before payroll gets submitted. This helps payroll correct any issues before they go through payroll so you don’t have to panic on Friday if something is wrong. Weekly cards can be found in the drivers rooms at the yards or can even be hand-written with dates and hours listed. Please turn weekly cards in with other paperwork or email photos of them to payroll@ottotrucking.com  by Tuesday each week.
