HOME CONTACT EMPLOYMENT DRIVERS

All new drivers must attend our company orientation.  During the orientation drivers are trained in the following safety areas:

  • Drug and Alcohol
  • Defensive Driving
  • Load Securement
  • Operational Procedures
  • Communication for Off-Road Vehicles

In addition to the above, drivers are instructed on the other proper safety procedures and requirements that our company follows.  Our aggregate drivers receive a copy of the Safety Procedures to follow when inside a gravel pit, which is governed by MSHA and equipment operation.   Our waste drivers receive a copy of the Safety Procedures to follow when on waste handling properties, which includes the landfill and the loading transfer station.

During our company orientation drivers have a session with our Safety Personnel who informs drivers about safe driving procedures to follow and instructs them on hours of service regulations, speed limits, and vehicle inspection.  Upon completion of the orientation drivers receive proper PPE, hard hats, safety vests, dust masks, leather gloves, and safety glasses for their protection.  New hire drivers also meet with Alan Otto, President of the company as a way for him to communicate his expectations on safety.  New-hire drivers spend time the first day on the job in a truck with a company trainer.  Trainers have been with our company for a minimum of 3 years without an accident or driving violation.

All of our drivers receive periodic safety updates and attend company safety meetings conducted by our Supervisors and Safety Director.  Otto Companies have a Zero Tolerance Policy regarding drug and alcohol abuse. We have employees on staff that are trained in collection of pre-employment, post-accident, post-injury, reasonable suspicion, and random drug testing.  Otto Companies are proud of our drug & alcohol testing records that exceed the government requirements.  We have also have trained our supervisors and dispatchers in reasonable suspicion awareness.  We pride ourselves on our goal to hire and retain good truck drivers.  Our turnover rate for truck drivers far exceeds industry standards.
